Acceptance and scope

These Terms of Use govern your use of the Pappies iOS app, its content, features, and in-app purchases. By downloading, accessing, or using Pappies, you agree to these terms.

Your use of Pappies is also subject to the applicable Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions and Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (EULA). If you do not agree, do not use the app.

The app

Pappies is a geography-learning app with quizzes, maps, achievements, progress tracking, reminders, friend battles, weekly leaderboards, and related educational content. Feature availability varies by app version. Africa is available without a paid unlock. Other continents and premium access may require Sign in with Apple and an in-app purchase.

Account and iCloud sync

You may use Sign in with Apple to access paid features and sync eligible progress, achievements, and unlock information through iCloud. You are responsible for maintaining access to the Apple Account used with the app.

Deleting your Pappies app account resets supported achievements, collections, progress, manual unlocks, and reminder notifications, removes supported iCloud-synced app account data, and signs you out of Sign in with Apple inside Pappies. It does not delete local battle history or attempts, shared CloudKit battles, Game Center matches or scores, public daily score, availability, inbox or identity records, private mailbox keys, battle invitation preferences, or previously uploaded feature-usage records and reports. It does not revoke battle invitations or sign you out of your device’s iCloud or Game Center account. See the Privacy Policy for retention details and how to request deletion of other data. Account deletion does not cancel a subscription or remove purchases from your Apple purchase history.

Feature usage and privacy choices

Versions with daily feature usage share encrypted daily counts through Apple’s CloudKit to help improve Pappies. Sharing is on by default and requires iCloud for upload. You can turn off “Share daily feature counts” in Sounds → Usage & privacy without losing access to app features or purchases. Turning it off clears unsent counts and stops new collection; uploads already in progress may complete, and previously uploaded records and reports are not automatically deleted. The Privacy Policy explains what is counted, the publicly readable CloudKit metadata, encryption, retention, and access or deletion requests. Agreement to these terms does not replace any privacy consent required by applicable law.

Battles, invitations, and Game Center

Direct player challenges require Game Center. Versions with the Pappies invitation inbox also require iCloud to send or receive those invitations; they can reach leaderboard players who are not Game Center friends. Battles shared through iCloud invitation links require an iCloud account on your device. Internet access and compatible app versions are needed for synchronization. Joining weekly leaderboards requires Game Center; public daily score breakdowns and battle availability also use CloudKit. These Apple services operate separately from Sign in with Apple inside Pappies.

Earlier direct challenges use Apple’s Game Center multiplayer service. Versions with the Pappies invitation inbox use public CloudKit requests and identity registrations to verify players, and encrypt the battle invitation link for the challenger when accepted. Accepted inbox battles use shared CloudKit gameplay records. The relevant service shares the round, player nicknames, guesses, timing, progress, and results with the opponent as described in the Privacy Policy. Direct invitations expire after seven days if not accepted. Current app rules allow up to five unexpired outgoing invitations, one pending invitation per opponent, and a 24-hour cooldown after a decline or cancellation.

Receiving direct challenges defaults to “Other players.” You can choose “Game Center friends” or “Nobody” in Battle settings and suppress invitations from a nickname. Suppression follows the nickname and may not apply if it changes. Pappies checks these preferences before accepting a direct battle; Apple controls its own Game Center notifications separately. The app publishes your challenge audience and an availability expiry date through public CloudKit records as explained in the Privacy Policy.

Creating or accepting an iCloud invitation-link battle shares player identifiers, display names when available, and gameplay information through Apple’s CloudKit service as described in the Privacy Policy. Anyone with that link may be able to accept the share and access its contents. Send links only to intended recipients. The app gives the opponent’s seat to the first other player who joins.

Battle results follow the scoring and timing rules shown in the app. Confirming “Leave & Forfeit,” or reopening an interrupted unfinished attempt, permanently forfeits that attempt. Briefly switching apps or locking your device keeps the battle timer running. Removing a battle from your history hides it on that device and does not withdraw a forfeit, erase the Game Center match or shared CloudKit record, or prevent the other participant from continuing. Invitation expiry limits acceptance and does not automatically delete stored battle data.

Battle and leaderboard results may be delayed by offline play, synchronization, or service interruptions. Result notifications depend on permission and Apple’s delivery services and are not guaranteed. Do not manipulate scores, alter shared gameplay records, or misuse invitations or player information.

Leaderboards and daily score breakdowns

Weekly leaderboard participation shares your score and Game Center profile information with other players. In versions with daily score breakdowns, saved current-week daily scores are also published to Apple’s public CloudKit database and can be viewed from leaderboard player sheets. These records are associated with your Game Center nickname through a hash; knowing the nickname allows the record to be located. Daily breakdowns are informational and are separate from the Game Center scores used to determine rankings. Scoring and eligibility follow the rules shown in the app, and an unavailable or delayed breakdown does not itself change a leaderboard result. Pappies Plus monthly and yearly subscriptions

Pappies Plus unlocks all continents and premium access while your subscription is active. Monthly and yearly auto-renewable plans may be offered. The available plans, billing period, and localized price are shown in the app and Apple’s purchase confirmation screen before you subscribe. A yearly plan is billed as one payment for the full year, rather than as monthly payments.

Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase, unless an eligible free trial applies. Unless you cancel, your subscription renews automatically for the same billing period: every month for a monthly plan, or every year for a yearly plan. Renewal pricing is subject to any notice or consent Apple requires for price changes.

In app versions with a separate trial offer, regular Monthly and Yearly checkout starts paid access immediately and does not include a free trial. An optional three-day free trial may be offered separately after qualifying app use, subject to Apple’s eligibility checks and availability. The trial purchase screen shows its length and monthly renewal price. The trial provides the same Pappies Plus access and renews as a monthly subscription at the displayed price unless you cancel before it ends. App versions or purchases with an existing introductory offer follow the offer shown in Apple’s purchase confirmation.

You can manage or cancel your subscription in Settings on your iPhone or iPad: tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Pappies. To avoid the next charge, cancel at least 24 hours before the current billing period or free trial ends. Cancellation normally leaves paid access available until the end of the paid billing period; Apple may end free-trial access immediately when you cancel. Deleting the app or your Pappies account does not cancel a subscription.

Lifetime access

Lifetime access is a one-time, non-consumable in-app purchase that unlocks all continents and premium access without a recurring subscription. In the euro storefront where the base price is offered, the price is currently €17.99.

“Lifetime” means access for the operational lifetime of Pappies under the Apple Account used for the purchase. It does not refer to the lifetime of the purchaser and does not guarantee that the app, every feature, or compatibility with future devices or operating systems will remain available indefinitely.

Regional prices, taxes, and payment

Prices vary by country or region and may change. The localized price and currency displayed in the App Store purchase screen when you confirm a transaction are the price and currency that apply. That displayed price may include applicable taxes depending on your storefront.

All purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. Pappies does not directly collect or process your payment-card details.

Restoring purchases and prior purchases

Eligible non-consumable purchases and active subscriptions can be restored in the app using the Apple Account that made the purchase. Certain legacy Pappies continent or bundle purchases may continue to grant all-access entitlement. Access remains subject to Apple’s verification of the transaction and entitlement.

Optional support gifts

Pappies may offer optional one-time support gifts as consumable in-app purchases. A support gift is voluntary, does not unlock features or content, and is generally not restorable after purchase. The applicable price is displayed by Apple before you confirm the purchase.

Refunds

Payments and refund requests are handled by Apple under Apple’s applicable terms and refund policies. Except where required by law or granted by Apple, payments are non-refundable and no partial refund or credit is provided for an unused subscription period.

Permitted use

Pappies is licensed for personal, non-commercial use in accordance with Apple’s usage rules. You may not misuse the app, interfere with its operation, bypass access controls, extract or redistribute its content, reverse engineer it except where applicable law expressly permits this, or use it in violation of law or third-party rights.

Educational content

Geographic names, borders, populations, facts, maps, and other educational content may be simplified, disputed, incomplete, or become outdated. Pappies is provided as a learning aid and should not be relied on as an authoritative source for legal, political, navigational, or safety-critical decisions.

Third-party services

Pappies relies on services operated by third parties, including Apple for account and iCloud sync, CloudKit invitation-link battles, public score, availability and invitation inbox records, encrypted daily feature counts and background updates, Game Center friends, direct battles, notifications and leaderboards, App Store purchases, install attribution, and platform functionality, and, in earlier app versions, AppsFlyer for mobile attribution, analytics, and fraud protection as described in the Privacy Policy. These services may process information as described in the Privacy Policy and may be changed, interrupted, or discontinued by their operators. Pappies does not control those third-party services or guarantee their continued availability.

Availability and changes

The app and its features may be corrected, updated, changed, suspended, or discontinued. Internet access, compatible Apple hardware and software, Apple services, and App Store availability may be required for some functionality. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.

Intellectual property

Pappies, including its software, visual design, maps, text, graphics, and other content, is owned by or licensed to the developer and is protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. These terms grant only the limited right to use the app; no ownership rights are transferred to you.

Sound credits

UI sound assets from the SND01 “sine” sound kit were designed by Yasuhiro Tsuchiya and are used under the SND terms of use at snd.dev. Copyright and other intellectual-property rights in those sound assets remain with their respective owner.

Disclaimer and limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Pappies is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties beyond those that cannot legally be excluded. The developer is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive loss arising from use of, or inability to use, the app.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits rights, remedies, warranties, or liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable consumer law.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated to reflect changes to Pappies, purchases, legal requirements, or third-party services. The effective date will be updated when changes are published. Where required, additional notice will be provided. Continued use after an update takes effect constitutes acceptance to the extent permitted by law.
